The first games for the quarter-finals in men and women were completed a while ago.
The Italian Marco Cecchinato made the big surprise, winning 3-1 sets (6-3, 7-6, 1-6, 7-6) Novak Djokovic in a match that lasted nearly 3.5 hours. Of course it is the greatest success of the 25-year-old Italian tennis player who had never win in major tournaments before his appearance in Paris. Before Djokovic, Cecchinato had already made some noise after eliminating No 8, David Goffin and No 10 Careno Busta in the previous rounds.
In the other quarterfinals Dominic Thiem was the absolute protagonist, making the most of Alexander Zverev’s short-suffering, defeating 3-0 sets (6-4, 6-2, 6-1) in less than 2 hours of play.
In women’s category, the two Americans, Madison Keys and Sloane Stephens, easily prevailed over their opponents and made an appointment between them to the semi-finals.
