AO 2019-Women-Day 1-Results

Without any surprises, the first day for the Australian Open of the Single Women, as all the favorites prevailed relatively easily.

 

Last year’s champion Caroline Wozniacki started victorious in the tournament, winning against Alison Van Uytvanck with 6-3, 6-4, and seemed ready to defend her title.

The winner of 2016, Angelique Kerber, also had an easy job against Polona Hercog, which won 6-2, 6-2.

Sloane Stephens finally managed to win a match at the Australian Open since 2014, prevailing against compatriot Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-2.

The world’s past No. 1 player, Maria Sharapova, begun impressively by winning without losing a single game against Harriet Dart.

The biggest surprise, was made by Maria Sakkari, who blocked the No.22 of the board, Jeļena Ostapenko with 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
