The new ATP tournament, featuring 24 national teams, has already begun. The ATP Cup 2020 takes place in Australia from January 3rd to January 12th in three cities in parallel – Sydney, Perth and Brisbane. Day 4 of the tournament, during which Group A, B and E competed, produced the following results.
Group A comprises South Africa, Chile, Serbia and France. South Africa overcame Chile 3-0, K. Anderson and L. Harris won the singles and R. Klaasen and R. Roelofse won the doubles, giving their country the first win since their first defeat with 3-0 from Serbia.
Serbia, on the other hand, faced France and dominated with 2-1 games. Benoit Paire, after breaking his racket during the game with Dusan Lajovic, got France’s only victory. The answer was given by Novak Djokovic winning the singles and alonside with V. Troicki dominating in the doubles, gave Serbia its second win.
Group B comprises Japan, Georgia, Spain and Uruguay. Japan dominated Georgia with 2-1 games. Japan’s G. Soeda and Y. Nishioka dominated in the two singles matches, with Japan winning its second victory. Spain also won its second victory, beating Uruguay 3-0.
Finally, group E comprises Croatia, Poland, Austria and Argentina. Croatia took the win over Poland 2-1. Cilic won Zuk and the Croatians I. Dodig and N. Mektic dominated in the double of H. Hurkacz and L. Kubot with a 2-0 set.
On Wednesday the following games will be held; South Africa vs France and Serbia vs Chile match for Group A , Japan vs Spain and Georgia vs Uruguay for group B end Croatia vs Argentina and Austria vs Poland for group E. These results will decide the winner of each group, which will pass to the quarterfinals.
