Australian Open: Nadal secures place in the quarterfinals

The Spaniard, No. 1 in the world rankings, got the last ticket to the Australian Open quarterfinals, after defeating Nick Kyrgios with 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4) in the last game of the fourth round.

In a much anticipated game, Nadal started off very strong and easily got the first set. But then the Australian increased his performance, taking the second set, equalizing to 1-1. The next two sets were of high intensity and were determined in the very end with the Spaniard managing to win both in the details.

Kyrgios bade farewell to his compatriots who cheered for him once more, with yet another great appearance that failed to overcome the obstacle of Nadal. The other two from the TOP 3, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, were already in the quarterfinals from yesterday, had a much easier job than Nadal.

Another great tennis player who has returned to top level in recent years has also gone through the next phase. The reason for Stan Wawrinka, who overcame Daniil Medvedev in an epic match with 6-2, 2-6, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2 and is a strong candidate even for the title, as he did back in 2014.
