World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty entered Brisbane International as the big favorite, but lost her first game to a little-known American.
In her opening game and in front of her compatriots, Barty was asked to face Jennifer Brady, who had started from the qualifiers.
Barrt lost the first set 6-4 and although she did everything to equalize, she failed, disappointing the public.
Brady, though an underdog, had made her presence felt as she had qualified over former No. 1 Maria Sharapova in the previous round.
