His 7th title and 4th during this year, concurred Daniil Medvedev, the Russian who earned the first place against Alexander Zverev at Shanghai Masters, this Sunday 13 October 2019.
The 23 year old Russian played exeptionally in a match which lasted less than 70 minutes, winning with 6-4 and 6-1 st the German Zverev. The final lacked big overturns, Daniil Medvedev didn’t allow Zverev to change the scor, since he was winning 3-0 games in both the sets. By this way he was named for the second time champion of the Sangahai ATP Masters 1000.
Alexander Zverev, recognizing the value of his opponent, in a sign of nobility he said after his game with Medvedev:
Daniil is somebody that plays a way that we have never seen before. He plays very flat. He plays with shots that you can’t really do anything with the ball, I feel like, and that is difficult to play against him in an aggressive way. Sometimes that’s maybe why it looks on TV or from the outside that players are not playing as aggressive against him as against others, but I feel like he doesn’t let you.
It is worth noting that this was the first ATP Masters 1000 final since the 2009 Rolex Paris Masters, with opponents under 24 years old. So as long as new blood steadily climbs to the top of the world rankings, we expect even more exciting maches.
