Novak Djokovic was the great winner of Wimbledon’s epic semi-final against Rafael Nadal, prevailing with 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9), 3-6, 10-8 in a match that surpassed 5 hours in duration.
The game was split in two days, as it had a late start, due to another marathon semi-final, between Kevin Anderson and John Isner (Read: Anderson at the final!). On Friday, the first 3 sets were played, and on Saturday the other 2, including the epic 5th set, which took 18 games to complete.
Another feature of the show was that it was done with a closed roof, throughout its duration. Yesterday the roof was necessary as the race began shortly before the sunset in London. Today the roof has been closed because of the regulation that allows it to be opened only if both players agree.
This was the 52nd meeting of these two great champions, with Nole winning for the 27th time Rafa (27-25). An important victory for Djokovic after he qualified in his first Grand Slam final from the US Open 2016. Today at 16:00 he will have the chance to win his 13th Grand Slam title and 4th in Wimbledon, against Kevin Anderson.
