Novak Djokovic is again at the top of the world rankings after winning the Australian Open for the eighth time in his career.
The Serb returned to his favorite tournament for another year and dominated the big final over Dominic Thiem with 6-4, 4-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 thus reaching his 17th major title. He is now a breath away from Roger Federer (20) and Rafael Nadal (19), and is aiming to overcome them by the end of the season.
On the other hand, the Austrian tennis player once again reached the source but failed to get his first major title. It was the third failed attempt after missing the finals at Roland Garros in 2018 and 2019.
It is worth mentioning that we have to look back almost 4 years back to the 2016 US Open, where Stan Wawrinka was the winner, to find the previous Grand Slam winner who was not one of the top 3.
