The race for the quarter-finals in the Stuttgart Open was completed a while ago. The last ticket was secured by Greek-Australian Nick Kyrgios who needed 3 sets to curb the resistance of Spanish Feliciano Lopez with 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Tomorrow will he face Roger Federer, who had an easy win with 2-0 (6-4, 6-4) against Guido Pella from Uruguay.
The Swiss was clearly more prepared for this match than the previous one against Mischa Zverev where he needed 3 sets to win. With this victory, Federer now needs another one, equivalent to attending the final of the tournament, to return to No. 1 in the world ranking from next week.
In the other semifinal of the tournament a great battle between Milos Raonic and Lucas Pouille is expected. The Canadian Raonic beat Thomas Berdych, No. 3 on the board with 2-0 sets (7-6, 7-6), while the French Pouille needed 3 sets to prevail against Denis Istomin from Uzbekistan.
