At last, the first victory for Stefanos Tsitsipas, who after two failed attempts, managed to celebrate in his third presence at ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, which is being held in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
This first win did not come easily as the 21-year-old tennis player did not start the game very well and was back in the score by Polish Hubert Hurkacz. But then the switch turned on and the Greek showed his superiority on the court by reaching the win with a 6-7(2) 6-3 6-1.
Before the match, Tsitsipas had already said that Hurkacz would probably prove to be a tough opponent. “He played very well in the first set with his wonderful backhand,” the Greek said.
“In the second set I fell a break very fast, but I fought very well and managed to reduce my effortless mistakes. I was really nervous at the start of the game because I really wanted to play good tennis.”
“It’s something special to win my first game here. This tournament has had many great champions in the past and my aim is to become the first Greek player to leave Rotterdam with the trophy.”
The next opponent for Tsitsipas will be Slovenian Aljaž Bedene, on Thursday afternoon.
