The big final in the women’s category has officially its stars and these are Simona Halep and Sloane Stephens.
Simona Halep turned Garbine Muguruza out of Roland Garros with 6-1, 6-4 and qualifies for another final in Paris.
With this qualification, Halep has also secured her stay in No. 1 of the World Ranking, where she has been continuously since the last week of February. She won this position, having defended more points than the other players who claimed it, Caroline Wozniacki and Muguruza.
She will now have a third chance to conquer Roland Garros after the lost finals of 2014 (Maria Sharapova) and 2017 (Jelena Ostapenko).
Sloane Stephens was the great winner of Roland Garros’ US semi-finals, dominating with 6-4, 6-4 from Madison Keys to qualify for her first final in Paris and second overall on a Grand Slam. At the same time, Stephens secured her first entry to the Top 5 of the World Ranking.
Stephens, who had not played again in the quarter-finals of the French Open until this year, didn’t take part in last year’s Roland Garros. She has already secured 1,300 points, which will bring her for the first time in the Top 5 of the world rankings and particular in No. 4 of the world! This will be her position either she will win the trophy in Paris or not.
In 7 past matches Halep has won 5 times Stephens (5-2), while in the soil the two players have met twice more, with Halep winning it both.
