After three unsuccessful attempts at Grand Slam finals, Simona Halep managed to win her first title to her favorite Roland Garros tournament.
In the big final in the category of women that was completed a little earlier she prevailed on Sloane Stephens in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 and crowned champion. At the same time it locked its place in No. 1 of the world rankings, but mainly proved to its critics that she deserves to be there.
The scene was similar to that of the final in Paris in 2016 where she faced Jelena Ostapenko but this time she was the one who reversed the score and won in three sets.
In the first set, Halep was quite nervous while Stephens was very dynamic and managed to win relatively easily with 6-3. The American started the game dynamically in the second set, making the break and was ahead of 2-0 games. And where everything showed that Halep would lose another big final, the switch turned and with a series of four winning games preceded with 4-2 games. Stephens reacted and managed to tie but the momentum had gone from the other side. Halep completed the set by winning the last two games.
In the third and final set, Halep was excellent and left no room for doubt while on the other hand Stephens did not believe it anymore and had a lot of effortless mistakes to bring the final 6-1 and the trophy to the hands of Halep.
