#NextGenATP teen Jannik Sinner is very close to his first Grand Slam tournament. The Italian beat 28-year-old Viktor Gallovic 4-6, 7-6 (2), 7-5 in a race of 2 hours and 49 minutes and managed to advance to the third and final round of the US Open 2019 qualifiers.
Sinner, who is at # 131 in the ATP rankings, gained an extra point from Gallovik and the next to face Spain’s Mario Vilella Martinez, who is at No. 202. Martinez beat Australian Akira Santillan 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-2.
Sinner won his first ATP 1000 race in Rome in May, beating American Steve Johnson in just 3 sets, then winning his second title 3 weeks ago in Lexington.
