The 28-year-old Kevin King, who is ranked No. 405 in the world ranking, won Nitto ATP Finals winner Grigor Dimitrov with 7-5, 6-4 and so went into the 2nd round of BB & T Atlanta Open.
“It’s fantastic. Wouldn’t have rather done it at any other place. It was a great crowd out there, great energy, so I’m just thrilled to have won that.”
King’s father had not seen him play for the past 2 years because of a serious health incident that had passed. In connection with this King said:
“It’s very special. It’s been a couple years since he’s seen me play, so just happy that he’s able to come out and support me.”
The next to face Kevin is Taylor Fritz from whom he has lost in the past to the ATP Challenger Tour. So he knows that even though he enthusiastically celebrates his victory this tour continues and the road to the top has difficulties.
“It’s great to celebrate it a little bit now with my friends and family out there, but I’ll go back, do a little recovery and start focussing on the next match.”
