With a huge surprise, the second round of the Mexacan Open was held in Acapulco, Mexico, as Nick Kyrgios prevailed over Rafael Nadal with 3-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (6) in a thrilling game.
Nadal was quite annoyed at his statements after the game: “He is a player who has tremendous talent, could win grand slams or fight for the first place,” Nadal said in Spanish.
“He has a lack of respect for the crowd, his opponent and himself.”
He continued to say, “I do not think he’s bad, but he does not have much respect for the public and the opponent.”
For his part, Kyrgios said: “He knows nothing about me. This is the way I play.
“He has his own game. I have my game. We played well. That’s the sport. People are different, so I’m not going to consider it at all.”
Kyrgios said he still considers Nadal one of the best players of all time.
“I had a hard time so far. I started with some injuries,” he said.
“I like to play against Rafael, he’s an incredible champion. Anyway, I like to go there and play in great fights. I feel very good. Being able to trust my body to win so is very important.
“It was one of the best atmospheres I’ve ever played. The majority of the crowd was with Rafa. It will go wherever it goes. He is an incredible player. One of the greatest of all time. ”
