The world’s top two, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, made their appearance today at the Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
In the first semifinal of the international tournament, Nadal, in his reappearance after many months of absence, though quite competitive, failed to prevail over Kevin Anderson. The Spanish tennis player started dynamically, winning the first set with 6-4, but then seemed out of rythm and Anderson turned the game by winning the next two sets with 6-3, 6-4.
Anderson will defend the title he won last year against the world’s No. 1 Djokovic, who won relatively easily in the second semi-final that followed, Karen Khachanov 6-4, 6-2. The Russian newcomer in the tournament could not substantially threaten the Serbian champion and he fatally lost.
In the opener game of today’s schedule Chung won Thiem with 6-2, 6-3, to finish in the 5th place.
