Sinner wins Next Gen ATP Finals

Jannik Sinner from Italy is the new under-21 champion after winning Alex de Minaur with 4-2 4-1 4-2 at the Next Gen ATP Finals yesterday.

De Minaur, No. 1 in this tournament, lost in the second consecutive final, following last year’s defeat by Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The 18-year-old Sinner is currently the youngest player in the world top 100, after jumping 450 places this year.

“The week was incredible,” said Sinner, the third winner of the tournament.

Two previous champions, South Korean Chung Hyeon (2017) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (2018), reached the semifinals of the Australian Open two months after winning the title.

Sinner, a skier champion who chose tennis at the age of 13, arrived in the first round of the US Open last August.
