Thiem managed to pass for the 2nd consecutive year in the quarterfinals of the Hamburg European Open on Wednesday winning Marton Fucsovics with a 7-5, 6-1 score in a match that lasted 1 hour and 36 minutes.
“I was happy it didn’t go into the tie-break. That was also the key moment because from then on I gained more and more confidence, almost everything what I played went in. It was a very good match from my side in the second set.”
His next fight in the quarter-finals is against Andrey Rublev, who said:
“In one specific zone [Rublev] is hitting the ball amazing, almost from every position on the court [there are] winners. My main goal is to bring him out of his comfort zone and, of course, not to let him [have] too much [time] in the offence because there he is amazing.”
