Almost a month after his presence in the Australian Open semi-finals, Stefanos Tsitsipas returns to a semi-final.
The Greek champion will play in his second semifinal of the season this afternoon (around 17:30 Greek time) after his victory over Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky with 6-4, 6-3 in last night’s quarterfinal at the Open 13 Provence in Marseilles.
“It was a good game from start to finish. I played intelligently, I kept my nerves, “Tsitsipas said.
Tsitsipas had a 1-2 record before coming to Marseilles as he had lost to the quarterfinal of the Sofia Open and in the first round of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Championships in Rotterdam. But in the Open 13 he has played really well so far without missing a set.
“I know I can play well, but the biggest challenge is to play even better, game by game,” he said.
Tsitsipas will face a well-known opponent for a place in the final. This is David Goffin, who defeated Frenchman Gilles Simon with 6-2, 6-4 in yesterday’s first quarterfinal. Tsitsipas and Goffin have two wins each in their previous four matches, with Goffin winning the most recent game last August at the Western & Southern Open.
In the first semifinal of the day that will start at 16:00 Greek time, Mikhail Kukushkin will play against Ugo Humbert.
