Serena Williams overcame the first difficult hurdle. The top tennis player seems to have returned for good and is getting better and better in each tournament. The 37-year-old American, despite having a lot of difficulties against Kristina Mladenovic, managed to prevail with 7-5, 7-6 (2) and qualify for the next round.

In the next round, he will face Evgeniya Rodina, who made the big surprise by defeating another American, Madison Keys, No 10 on the board with 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.

The same luck had the third American Venus Williams, who at the age of 39 fought but did not managed to win against Kiki Bertens, losing in 3 sets with 6-2, 6(5)-7, 8-6.
